I planned to read The Last Chairlift by John Irving. I loved his books years ago although rereading A Prayer for Owen Meany for a book club recently was disappointing. It didn't carry the same feelings as it did when I originally read it. So that may be the reason

I started The Last Chairlift hoping it would sweep me up, but it didn't grab me and I put it down. A friend of mine did take it on and read it all the way through.

Crook Manifesto by Colson Whitehead. I received my signed (!) copy as a gift at the end of the summer. Planning to make it my first read of the new year.

I've been trying to get ready to read *Translation State,* the newest novel from Ann Leckie. I fell in love with her worldbuilding and characterization in her debut novel *Ancillary Justice,* and I am so incredibly hyped for this one that the fear of disappointment (and the need to devote 3 hours to power through it) has left it sitting on the TBR pile on my bedside bookshelf since I bought it in June. I'm going to read it the next time I have to take a sick day--nothing like aliens and cannibalism to make you feel better about the crud in your chest!

I've experienced this where I'm so hype on a book I keep putting off starting it. It's a weird, but real phenomenon.
