This line - "the same feeling I had when my wife and I saw Sammy Hagar walking a miniature horse along the square in Santa Monica, California." - made my entire day.
This reminds me of a story my partner's mother told us about seeing Nick Nolte in his bathrobe outside of a CVS somewhere in L.A. years ago. (not quite as charming as Sammy Hagar with a miniature horse)!
Loved this post, John. I worked at SAIC for five years and lived with a visual artist for about six years - makes me a little nostalgic for those days (now long, long past).
Oops. Finger slip. Always enjoy your writing. I'm curious...as to how you found where to stay...was it affordable? Perhaps managed with points? Any info helpful.

It’s a true story. Though my wife says it may have been a miniature donkey.

"I’m off to go see the sight of a famous beheading"
Either that's the best typo of the day, or, unbeknownst to me, the UK has re-instated capital punishment.
FYI we’ve always found London Walks both informative and entertaining: https://www.walks.com/
