Thanks, John. I am reading a hefty & well-illustrated book, Modern Art and America: Alfred Stieglitz and His New York Galleries. The essays focus on the intellectual ferment among practitioners of photography and modern art during the early part of the 20th C. This line resonated with me wrt early 20th C artists: "a process of exchange between unique intelligences." I had not recognized how important Stieglitz and his devotees were to that.
