I recently finished Nevada by Imogen Binnie and am still thinking about it. Quite an eye-opening and breathtaking journey with richly textured and authentic voices. I found myself really trying to listen to the characters and learn more about what it feels like to be transgender and navigate any number of paths forward in this world. A humbling, rewarding, hopeful read.

Just finished Utopia Avenue by David Mitchell a few hours ago. It left me feeling that nothing is coincidence, that the swiftness of culture change is predictable only in retrospect, and that America will always be at war, with itself or others. The only solution is to organize. Currently taking suggestions on that one. Great, timely letter. Cheers to another week of recognizing our privilege!

Another excellent thought provoking newsletter. I found a book by Richard Powers buried in my bookshelves that I'd missed and have started reading. The Time of Our Singing. Love the way he uses the language. Just finished a disturbing book called Women Talking by Miriam Toews.

Hi John. This is personal. I've wanted to subscribe for some time (actually, since you started this thing), but wasn't able to because reasons. Now, however, I AM able to do that, and it's as a result of a painful personal decision to cancel my print subscription to the Trib and move to all digital. Just saying. Please continue. Oh, and, FYI, I am now reading (since I know you want to know) Wilder Girls by Rory Power. Not at all my usual fare (most recently read book was Tevye the Dairyman and Railroad Stories by Sholem Aleichem, much more my cup of tea), but highly recommended by my husband of all people, who is not usually into dystopian YA science fiction. But there we are.
