Hello Derek,

I love that you are highlighting independent presses, and I want to make sure that readers are aware of the Republic of Consciousness Prize, US & Canada, which I Chair. We are in our second year (and an outgrowth of the Republic of Consciousness Prize, UK, which has been in existence for 8 years.) Last year we awarded US $35,000 to ten small presses that publish literary fiction in the US and Canada. Submissions are open now for the 2023 publishing year and close on August 31, 2023. To learn more about the Prize or to donate, see our website: https://www.republicofconsciousnessprize-usa.com/

Thank you,

Lori Feathers

Split/Lip Press is coming up on its ten-year anniversary and might be a good fit; we’ve got some great books coming out this year!! And Autofocus is another favorite—they also run a really good podcast. Can't wait to read more of this series!

Thank you! We published Split/Lip director Kristine Langley Mahler at my last press, so they're definitely on my radar. Will look into Autofocus as well.

I'd love to see a profile of Third World Press. They had a flood earlier this year and were raising donations to recover some of their losses. I'd like to hear how they are doing now and potentially boost their reach - https://chicago.suntimes.com/black-history/2023/1/27/23573122/historic-black-publisher-raises-money-after-flood-damages-property

Love this focus on indie publishers! Thank you so much for sharing. I'm trying to do something similar over on YouTube. I feel like there is a real void and a need for indie publisher coverage on that platform, though I'm not sure literary folks take YouTube quite as seriously as other outlets, so it's a real struggle to reach people. So grateful to have other resources out there to discover small publishers, like this wonderful series. Thank you!
