All of Cyril Connolly's writing. And outside of my tiny circle of closest friends, I would rather hang out with people who never read Jane Austen than risk having to listen to people tell me what they like/don't like about her books. Also once someone told me that Trollope's "Miss MacKenzie" was "preachy" and that was about seven years ago and I am still appalled.

I'm in love and covet hard Iris Murdoch's The Sacred and Profane Love Machine, even though it's far from her best work. And because it's not her best work, I can never recommend it — namely because I find its brilliance so locked up in my relationship to it that I come off a total dope trying to unlock that brilliance to others. So it remains my secret.

Years ago a friend gifted me a copy of Geek Love. I set it aside on my bookshelf for a later read. I've never picked it back up (except to move it). You've convinced me that I NEED to read this book. Thanks for the reminder!!
